LORD GOD in Psalms 115
This is the perfect definition of idols. I beseech you to prove if the truths mentioned above are lies. Many natural calamities like Earthquakes, floods, storms and cyclones struck the idols and their temples. The idols cannot see with their eyes and cannot speak with their mouths to warn the victims and cannot run away with their feet to save themselves. They were broken and their hands can’t protect themselves. They were worn out and torn down.
Today, almost all the world is drenched in Idolatry i.e., the worshipping of Idols. People who worship the idols are called Idolaters. Almost all the world i.e., hindus, muslims, Buddhists, Sikhs, jains, Zoroastrians, African and American tribes, roman catholics, pagan Christians(bow down before cross) are idolaters.
But according to the great God of the Bible, the idolatry is a sin. Idolatry is an abomination to the God of the Bible. The living God of the Bible calls the idolatry as lifeless worship aka dead worship.
Let us see why the LIVING GOD refused to be worshipped as an idol from THE LIVING WORD OF GOD, THE BIBLE.
Exodus 20:4-6 “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; and shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.”
The meaning is very clear. You should not make any graven image and bow down before it and should not serve it with materialistic things. This is idolatry. The true God of the Universe is provoked when He is worshipped in another form which He is not in. The creator of you and me is provoked when we worship the gods who are not at all gods. The LORD GOD is provoked to jealousy because He loves us so much and He wants the same gratitude and love in return but not the hatred, curses and blasphemies from us.
Why doesn’t the Living God of the Bible want any human being to worship the idols?
Isaiah 42:8 “I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.”
The LIVING GOD who is omniscience does not want to give HIS GLORY to any graven image which knows nothing. The Living God doesn’t want to compare Himself with the lifeless idols. He is the life giving Creator of all things of the Universe, but the mankind is glorifying the lifeless idols as their creators. How can the truth accept the error? Can truth and lies mix together? Man wants gods to fit according to his imaginations of his finite minds. But the Living God wants us to obey HIS Universal Moral Law of 10 Commandments. This is the great controversy between Infinite God’s Infinite Law versus the mortal man’s fainting finite mind.
Genesis 6:5 “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”
Jeremiah 17:9-10 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD searcheth the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.”
Psalms 58:3 “The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.”
Galatians 5:19-21 “19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”
You might be supporting the idol worships because your family traditions teach that. It is silly to believe anything based on traditional and generational belief system rather than reality. You must taste and see the power of God in reality. That is what the God of the Bible tells
Psalms 34:8 “O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
9 O fear the Lord, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.”
But many people, to this day claim that the idolatry should be compared to the learning of the Alphabets and there is nothing wrong with that.
But the Bible tells otherwise
Romans 1:20-25 “20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.”
The Bible is very clear that they are become idolaters because they knew God and rebelled against the Living God. They forsook the Living God and became fools by worshipping the graven images of men and women, birds like Phoenix , fourfooted beasts like elephants, lions etc and creeping things like serpents.
They became so much foolish that they changed the truth of Living God into a lie of lifeless idols.
But many idol worshippers claim “These are not lifeless idols. God is present in everything of this Universe (which is also known as Pantheism). We see gods in those idols.”
Let us just have a deep insight into these illogical statements.
O dear precious soul created by God, if God is in everything, why don’t you bow down before your fellow human to worship him? Bring all the flowers, golden crown, golden clothes, golden rings, golden bracelets, golden phylacteries, and golden shoes and adorn your fellow human and worship him. You can see God in lifeless idols but can’t you see God in living fellow humans? According to your statement “God is in everything” and God is right in you and in your fellow humans, then why don’t you worship yourself? If you are also God according to your claim, why don’t you create some life and give life to the dead people and heal the sick people with your god-ability? Don’t tell me that, doctors are doing that work. I would ask that if doctors are gods, and if they have inborn knowledge and ability to treat the people, why would they go to medical schools and obtain the knowledge to become doctors? And even if they learn, why aren’t they still perfected in their healings? Why do they still rely on the drug mafia of Pharmaceuticals? Why don’t they make a permanent cure for any disease? Instead of giving life, why are they killing the people in the name of Euthanasia? And if doctors are gods, why are they aborting a baby? Why do they kill the children and sometimes both the mother and the child die during pregnancy complications and delivery complications?
Only a mentally disabled person calls the doctors gods. They are just humans just like you and me with the God-gifted talents. God of the Bible gives the gifts both to the good and to the evil. Some use for the benefit of others and others use for their own benefits and go to damnation.
Matthew 5:44-45 “44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.”
Are you using your God given gifts to glorify God and using them for the benefit of others?
According to your statements, you will feel the presence of God only if the idol is present there. Do you mean that God is not present in that place if there is no idol there? That is a lie. God can be present everywhere. You don’t feel His presence because you don’t worship the true God and then you will make an idol and make others appear that you believe God is present in that idol but not in that place. That is a big lie. God doesn’t want you to believe that lies. When we, true Christians feel God wherever we are and worship Him by bowing down and lifting up our holy hands to heaven, why can’t you feel that? It is because you are ignorant about the nature of true God and your sins have separated you spiritually from God that you cannot feel His presence everywhere. That is why God condemned idolatry to let you know that you are separated from His presence because of your sins, but not because there is no idol there. That is why He had forbidden idolatry that you should not believe lies. The presence of God is present there even if idol is not present in that place.
Jeremiah 10:14 “Every man is brutish in his knowledge: every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.”
And again, I believe you can see god in the mosquitoes and also in ants, right?
If the mosquitoes are gods, then my first question is why are they sucking our blood to survive? Can’t the mosquito god support for itself and live? Doesn’t this have inborn life in it? The mosquitoes are not able to give the life but instead pass on poisons into our bodies, which becomes deadly diseases in our bodies. In any case it can be easily proved that the God does not exist in the idols and He is not in everything. But His presence is everywhere in the Universe.
TRUE IMAGE OF GOD
This is really in fact a very interesting and very important subject to know about the nature of God. What is the true image of God?
The Bible clearly describes that no man had ever seen God.
“God is a Spirit: they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”- John 4:24
Then how do we know the image of God? If we visit the temples and compare the idols in those temples, you cannot be sure that the same god’s idols of different temples will be same. In one idol the nose is long and in the other idol the eyes are small. In any case you can’t judge which is the true idol image of the god? In some cases you have to identify the idol god by recognizing its attire and weapons. How pathetic is it? Does the true Living God require weapons to make war? It does not make any sense. Only the kings of this earth require weapons to make war.
A wild guess cannot be the true image of God. The identification of God is not the calculation of probability to put in a box and pick him up like a lottery and worship him. And those idols have mouths but are not able to speak with their mouths to justify themselves as gods.
The identification of the God depends on the fact, how much persistently you seek and diligently search with purity in the heart and with a ready mind to sacrifice anything in this search to find Him.
“yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; if thou seeketh her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.” Proverbs 2:4-6
It is your duty to pray and seek the truth and then you will find and identify the true God. To know the knowledge of this world and to survive, you will go to schools and graduate to acquire that knowledge. But in order to obtain the knowledge of God, who is running all this Universe, are you searching for Him to identify Him in Revelations and to find Him in the truth?
This is not your sin. It is the sin of your ancestors who purposely rejected the God of the truth to fulfill their lusts of the flesh. Now it is your choice to identify your Creator or to continue in your ancestral belief systems without any diligent inquiry on your part and pass on that sin to your next generation.
This is the whole duty of mankind. We have to find out the reason, why do this world was such a mess with full of imperfections, natural calamities, sicknesses, pains, diseases and death. We should find a solution to end all this and live upon this Earth with peace and harmony without any poor and needy, which of course is possible only in the kingdom of God. That is why we preach kingdom of God where there is no more pain, neither sorrow nor death.
Let us see, how do the idolaters make the image of God?
Isaiah 44:10,12-13 “Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing? The smith with the tongs both worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with strength of his arms: yea, he is angry, his strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is faint. The carpenter stretcheth out his ruler; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he market it out with the compass, and maketh it after a figure of a man; according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house.”
This is what the God of the Bible explains about the manufacturing of the idols. You hit hit hit… your gods with a hammer and make an image according to the image of a man. And don’t you feel anything when a rock or stone is hit again and again continuously with the hammers to form a shape? Or What kind of a man is he that makes the image? He has never seen God but if He makes a gorgeous image, you will fall in love with the idol or else you will reject the idol. Even if he saw the God, he can’t make exact copy of the God’s image. This smith or carpenter hungers and thirsts and still the god in the stone cannot provide food or water to fill him. That is extremity of the power of those lifeless idols.
Can you ever be able to compare the great magnificent Living God with those lifeless idols? Is it not a blasphemy to compare a Life Giving God with those deadly rocks and stones, which can kill us in natural calamities?
The God of the Bible is powerful. You are not required to go to any temple to pray to Him or you need not make any image to worship Him. You have to literally know God to feel His presence even you are in a far prison of wilderness. Just call His name and He will be right there. That is the greatness of the God. He created you and He will take care of you.
But you hit hit hit very hard a stone or wood and call it a God? And it is also hit by a sinful man who has never seen god, but in his imagination picks up a image on the basis of probability?
It is only asking the blind person or the person whose eyes are closed with a cloth, to go and climb to the peak of the Mount Everest from the other end of the Earth. There is no way for him to climb it and in the same way no one can make an exact image of the God. One more thing, have you ever checked those idols under the microscopes? Once you check and see, you will find out all the imperfections in those idols and you will know how ugly the image is. But have you ever seen the creation of God, even the grass is very perfectly scaled and made to the ruler. That alone proves, idol gods have no fingerprints of creator God in it.
You might argue with me claiming that gods descended and became idols. Let us go deep and think about this. The idols of same gods in different temples do not match with each other. Then which of those idols is true? Or What is the proof that gods descended and became idols?
Okay if they descend and became idols, how did they descend? Have they descended with the ornaments or without the ornaments? Have they descended with the weapons or without the weapons? What is the exact height of the gods? If they are truly gods, why do the priests take bath to the idols? Do God require bath? Do you mean God can be corrupted? Why can’t the idols take care of themselves? Where is the life in them?
What if all you believe is a manufactured lie. How can you prove that it is not a lie? In today’s world none of your idol gods came and became the idols. Then on what basis you can believe that some god actually descended and became an idol?
Maybe you wanted to tell me that you have to believe whatever you say without any proof and that is called faith. Firstly, if this world is full of truth, then I would have believed what you said is truth. But there are lies out there and the world is full of liars. With this in mind I have to ask you again, why did the ancestors require the proof that god becomes idols and why don’t we require the proof? Why your god of imagination behaves differently to different people? Only to our ancestors, he will appear and become idol, but to us will he not appear and become idol? If you believe that is truth, then you have to believe that mohammad of islam also to be true, because he dreamed that black stone idol in mecca came from heaven? But his teachings teach that you kill all idolaters. What a hypocrisy it is! This only proves all those acts are not from God.
From my childhood I have not seen at least one god descended from heaven and become idols. But I saw many babas claiming themselves as gods and becoming idol gods. This is the solid proof that the idol gods are not true gods but instead the some men wanted to become gods. That is what described in the Bible. It is about Eve, the mother of all humanity wanted to become god and committed sin and brought the punishment of death upon the humanity.
Genesis 3: “4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”
She believed that tree can make her all-wise to be as gods and she ate the poison which destroyed her DNA and here we are with our mortal bodies on this Earth.
And again if you talk about the probability form of an image might be god, then why don’t you think that you yourself or your fellow person can also be in the form of god? If so, why don’t you just adorn him with the precious things and worship him?
In all the above arguments, it is very clear that God is not in everything. But God of the Bible tells that He is present everywhere in the Universe but not in everything. That means He is powerful enough to become as big as the heavens and the earth to spread all over the Universe and to become so small to live in our hearts.
God created everything out of nothing. And He can bring everything to nothing. That is the POWER OF THE GOD OF THE BIBLE.
Again the name of the God of the Bible is Self Existent LORD GOD, who is the source of life to all the living creatures of the Universe. But we treat and compare Him to lifeless idols. This is just a BLASPHEMY! Calling the lifeless idol as the living creator that created you is THE BLASPHEMY.
But if you argue with me by reasoning that who told you that there is only one God? Why because our scriptures tell us that there are many millions of gods.
In that case which one of your millions of gods is your creator? Which one of your brother’s god created him? And then comes many questions. Which of your gods is greater? Either the one created you or either the one created your brother? What laws did each of your gods follow? Do they follow the laws established only by them? Then if every god has his own law, one god will command to worship me as an idol, the other god will tell you don’t worship me as an idol, another god will tell that it is okay to tell lies, another god will tell it is okay to murder, another god will tell it is okay to commit incest, another god will tell it is okay cheat, another god will tell it is okay to rob and so on. Which of them will you follow? For example the god of black magicians or witches demand human sacrifices, if you accept that their god is also a god, then nothing can be the best sacrifice than to offer yourself as a human sacrifice to that god.
And also one god will give boon to his ardent devotee, another god will give bane to him because he is not his devotee. This is all a big mess and in the end you are always in the fear of dying without any hope.
Today we see many god-men are popping up claiming themselves as gods or reincarnation of this god or that god. And again they are caught red-handed deceiving their ignorant devotees. So, in that case how do you justify your foundation less statement that there are millions of gods? How do you suppose which god is telling truth and which god is telling lies? Do you think God is so confused to put you in a world of confusion? Or Is it purely your ignorant imagination?
The Living Word of God, the Bible tells
Romans 3:4 “God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar;”
If everyone claims that what they observed is truth, then what is the real truth?
These are all never ending unanswerable questions.
In reality, there is no such thing called maaya or falsehood. You can see idolatry as a big business from making of an idol to offer gifts and sacrifices to those idols. All turns out to be a big way of making money. The God is not materialistic. He is the God both to the rich and the poor. He doesn’t need your rich materialistic offerings. The Universe and everything in the Universe belongs to Him. If He wants to adorn Himself with materialistic things which would worn out and fade away, He Himself would have adorned for Himself in a glorious manner with those things which would never worn out and fade away. God is the provider of all. He doesn’t depend on your materialistic fallible things. God is infallible and if He wants anything He could do that in more excellent and glorious manner. That is why God of the Bible said that idolaters are become like their idols. The idolaters are spiritually blinded because they cannot see and understand.
A BLIND HUMAN
Then how about the born blind people, they have never seen the idol images of God, and then how do they recognize the God? It is simple. Just bow your heart and spread yourself before Him and pray by calling upon Him. There is no need of an image for a blind person to worship. That is what the God of the Bible tells.
If you search God with pure and diligent heart to find Him, you will see Him and He will lead you.
Because Lord Jesus Christ promised “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” – Matthew 7:7-8
“call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” – Jeremiah 33:3
